Good news! I've found Internet gold! You probably remember Daryn Kagan from CNN. Along with reporting "hard news" she created a feature called “Your Spirit” — inspirational stories that grabbed you by the heart. These stories weren’t particularly prized in the newsroom, but she loved them. Now, she does these positive stories full-time at www.darynkagan.com, which I highly recommend. You can read Daryn's story in the September Guideposts at http://tinyurl.com/mye9fa. You'll also find a tribute to her recently departed cat, Tripod, on our Rainbow Bridge page. Mark your calendar for October 2010 when Daryn's new book comes out: Tripod: Life Lessons Of A Magnificent 3-
Legged Cat.
As noted above, October 16 is National Feral Cat Day. We really need to make every day feral cat day. Feral cats exist almost entirely as a result of human cruelty, neglect, and indifference - learn more here: http://tinyurl.com/l8taa9. There are many things we can do to help solve the problem and stop the killing of cats. Please click on the link above and learn how you can be a part of the solution.
The United States Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Health & Human Services on September 9 launched a food safety consumer website, Foodsafety.gov, that will include pet food recall information. I found pet food information by using the search box in the upper right corner of the home page.
Patty Hendren (Patty's Heartbreakers) tipped us to the Classic Canadian Cartoon "The Cat Came Back". I think you'll enjoy it - I did! http://tinyurl.com/n72xg7
China sadistically tortures and slaughters over 2,000,000 cats and dogs every year. They are skinned alive and left to die slowly in shock and excruciating pain.
Please help fight this mindless, vicious cruelty! Go to http://animalsaviors.org/ and sign the petition. The organizers think it will help, as China's dictators are beginning to care about world opinion. Maybe they'll even stop exporting poisonous products...
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men (and women) do nothing. (Edmund Burke)
Incidentally, people who buy real fur products - no matter what they're labeled - may unknowingly be part of the problem...
Semi-technical note: Some folks asked me why I've started using links that always start http://tinyurl. Well, some URLs can run well over 100 characters - very cumbersome and sometimes prone to fail because not all browers like them. Tinyurl.com - a free service - cuts them down to size. Neat and tidy - like cats.
