No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

A retired Ellsworth, New Hampshire, man, wanting to do something nice for everyone, picked up the litter at the White Mountain National forest, raked the sand on the beach, hauled away the trash, and even built a picnic table for the park. The US Forest Service fined him $150 for "maintaining the national forest without a permit."

(Too stupid for local bureaucrats, it had to be Federal...)

I’m Bored!

The Kitty Olympics is over and no one will come and play with me. My brother, Barnaby, comes up to eat with me, but I think that’s because he likes my food. Little Bear, my sister, and I sleep together, but she doesn’t play much. I try to look cute, up here on the shelf. You’d think that lots of kitties would want to play with me, but no one does. How boring!

I looked around for something interesting to do. I decided to come down from the shelf and take a look around. First, I checked out the kitchen sink, the microwave, island, and the fridge. I really liked the fridge. It’s up higher than my shelf and there is plenty of Belle room.

I walked around the kitchen some more and then went into the living room. Mama carried me around and gave me lots of loving. She was so proud of me for exploring. After a while, I got up on the bookcase and surveyed my realm. I checked out some new baskets and played for a long time. It was fun. Then I saw Holly, The Evil One, and I freaked out. I jumped down and ran as fast as I could to my safe shelf.

A Brand New Toy

Mama loves me so much that she got me a brand new toy. It’s in a bright yellow box and has this big hole in the top. If you stick your paw in the hole, you can pull out big black, slickery, plastic bags. Mama is so proud of me when I pull out a bag for her. She says the little claw holes are just perfect. She says, “Belle, what would I do with out your help?” I don’t know what she’d do. She really needs me.

My New Basket

Mama gave me a new basket, too. I can sit in it and it’s big enough to curl up and nap in. It is really pretty. It makes me look very cute. Mama keeps thinking of ways to make me happy. She loves me and I love her.

My name is Belle and by the time we talk again, I’ll be two years old.
