I gave my cat a bath the other day; they love it. He enjoyed it, it was fun for me.
The fur stuck to my tongue, but other than that...

I was working as a vet assistant. One day we had a man come in with a poor kitty that had been shot. He was bring it in for a neighbor. All he told us was that the neighbor was a postman. I called all of the local post offices and could not find anyone who knew the man. The postman did not come by or call to see that the cat was with us. I figured that the guy was a no show and just wanted to get rid of the cat. So I gave up and decided to adopt the cat. I figured that since I couldn't find the postman I would call him Postman. The kitty had been shot so badly that we had to remove the leg.

The postman did show up at the vet - 15 minutes 'til closing. The doctor told him that the kitty was hurt so bad that the leg would need to come off. It turns out at this point that the postman had found the kitty hopping down the road( it was a stray). He decided that he would keep the kitty and have him fixed.

The man did not want the kitty but was willing to keep him. My boss then told the postman that I would kind of like the cat. So the postman starts grilling me: how much time do I work, what kind of house do I live in, etc. You could tell that he really did care what happened to the kitty. Well I passed his test. He said that he would pay to have the leg removed, if I would get him neutered and get him his shots.

Postman is well and sometimes I forget that he has no front leg.

Her name is Joy, but Hunter would have been a good name for her. She's a fierce protector and keeps her perimeter well patrolled. She's sweet, loving, friendly and fearless. It's remarkable how immediately friendly she is with new people. She knows the high-five trick. I taught it to her, then forgot about trick training for almost a year until I gave her a little dab of poultry flavored toothpaste. She liked it so much she immediately high-fived me for more. I was surprised she remembered that after such a long period of time. So now both my cats have some regular high-five trick for treat times. I'm really impressed with the trick training. I would like to do more with it, but lately have been focused on better dental care instead. Both cats had to had some really expensive dental care recently.

A few months ago I wrote that we had six indoor cats. Two we have had for a few years, and four from a litter a feral cat had in our wood pile. All six have gotten along great, but we thought it would be nice if we could get the mother in the house, too.

Well after three months of coaxing, Kit-Kit finally came in just like her son Blackie. I left the door to the sun porch open one day and she just walked in and stayed. She didn't mind it when I closed the doors on the sun porch. She lived there for a few days while all of the other cats kept an eye on her. After she was checked over and good to go, we let the kittens meet her. No hissing or fighting at all, just one happy family. After about an hour we let the other two (Diesel and Katie) in to see what would happen. Not much. Diesel laid down right next to her. Katie can not see very well so it will take a little longer for her to get used to Kit-Kit. I have noticed that on rainy days Kit-Kit sometimes will sit in the window looking out. If I go near her she will start a very loud purr. I think she is trying to let me know she is happy to be with her family.

The beautiful black girl is Lady. When her elderly owner went into long-term care, she was unceremoniously dumped on the street by relatives. My friend talked me into taking her and she is a beautiful, silky cat. She struck up a friendship with one of my neutered males, and she keeps him enthralled to this day. I was not aware she was pregnant when I got her.

She had three lovely kittens and after finding good homes for two, I kept the gray one you see in the other photo. Her name is Miss Bar and she has quite a personality. I never knew when she was going to trot off with one of my socks or a pair of panties while I was getting ready for work. One day she went down the hall with an 6 inch square piece of plywood in her mouth! Miss Bar is easily startled and even a sneeze will send her flying off the bed and down the hall.

Miss Glory is my old lady. She is 16 years old and I have had the pleasure of her company for 14 years. Yes, we’ve been together for a long time.

The only thing that bothers her is her rear legs, which have arthritis really badly. She can hardly walk, but still, every day, she makes her way up the kitty steps to the sofa and curls up on “her” end of it. From there, she can creep over to me and demand my fingers. Yes, I recognize that particular meow, I know she is asking for my fingers. So I give her my fingers and she licks each and every one, taking her time. She prefers the fingers on the left hand over the right hand. Sometimes she nibbles on them between licks. And always she purrs contentedly.

I adopted Patches four years ago when he was two years old. He has always been a delight. His favorite toys are boxes and paper bags. My place is full of kitty toys, but Patches will only play with “his” boxes and bags. Once he decides a box is his, I cannot throw it out. He spends almost every waking moment in “his” box. The same rule applies to paper bags. He likes to smash “his” bags flat and lay on top of them.

I suppose I will never need to buy another kitty toy again.
