My mother has a "lead foot," so I was not surprised
when a state trooper pulled us over as we were speeding through Georgia.
Hoping to get off with a warning, Mom tried to appear shocked
when the trooper walked up to the car.
"I have never been stopped like this before," she said to the officer.
"What do they usually do, ma'am," he asked, "shoot the tires out?"

My phone rang with another plea to take not one but TWO cats who needed a home. I said I just couldn’t do it, but after several days of receiving emails and phone calls about these two Russian Blue cats, I knew I had to take them in and find them a forever loving home.

I am a person who wants to rescue ALL the animals, but common sense prevails and I do realize I can’t bring them all home. The story of Nickel & Dime touched my heart.

These two cats were in the most loving home a cat could have, when their owner, a single young lady, in her early 30s, made an unexpected trip to the hospital and never came home. A sudden illness caused her death. Her family was of course devastated, and also knew how much she loved her two cats, Nickel & Dime, but had no idea how to find them a good home. The cats stayed in their familiar home while the family started emptying out the house.

Nickel & Dime arrived at my house on a Saturday, with a pick-up load of cat trees, toys (numerous!), food, dishes, etc. Everything well-loved cats would have, of course!

Have you ever petted a Russian Blue? They have fur like a Teddy Bear, thick and luxurious. I, of COURSE, fell in love, and immediately went to the task of finding them a good home before I was in big trouble with Tai, Junior, and Ashley, the three cats that own me.

After several months of trial and error by telephone and email with prospective owners, I found a family in Alabama who wanted to come to the Northwest to meet the cats.

Nickel & Dime’s new owners flew to Portland, Oregon to meet them, fell in love at once, and flew them home to Opalaka, Alabama!

At last email, I have been told that the teenage daughters in the family have re-named Nickel & Dime to the “Loose Change Sisters”.

Everyone is happy and found a great home!
