This is our Fifth Anniversay issue! Who'd have "thunk" when we started that we'd last this long?
In the beginning, the felizine was dark and without form and I was stumbling around only vaguely aware of how HTML ("the code" - HyperText Mark-up Language) worked. Learned how to code and design websites from Dennis "Boogiejack" Gaskill at www.boogiejack.com - great how-to books and excellent advice! (No, I'm not an affiliate...)
The original plan was to make "extra" income - like there is such a thing - by publishing a classy, online, cat lovers' magazine. Did I mention I'd never been a publisher before? Editor, yes. Publisher, no. How hard could it be? If you have to ask...
We were eventually convinced that this venture would never be a money-maker, dropped that part of the plan, and have been happier ever since. All those ads were a drag and dealing with the affiliate networks and advertisers (who pay on a per-sale basis) stunk. We decided to just try to serve other cat lovers and celebrate our wonderful kitties. Splendid idea!
We'd like to entertain and inform far more cat people than we do, but have no money to advertise a not-for-profit felizine. It would be terrific if more of our readers recommended us to others, but not many seem to - too busy? You could email them now 8>):
Sincere and profound thanks to our talented and generous columnists, essayists, and story/article writers, and many photographers (Diana Hanshaw comes to mind). Without you, Catnip Chronicles simply would not be. Long may you wave!
You should know about a very special place. This is from their website:
Welcome to Angel's Gate, a residential, non-profit, 501 (C) 3 home, our home, for special needs animals. Here animals, many of whom are terminally and/or critically ill or physically challenged, come to live out their days in peace, dignity, and love. Our focus is on wellness and quality of life. We provide for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each animal. We take a holistic approach in animal care, giving all needed supportive services including hospice care.
Apparently contributions have just about stopped and they're in trouble. If you can help at all, please click on Angel's Gate (above) to go to their website.
Oh, Lee and I have started looking for a kitten - will keep you posted. (Just not enough fur on our fur niture...)
Thanks for a great first five years - I hope we're together for many more! Have a wonderful month filled with love, good health, laughter, and cats!
